The Junior Federal Duck Stamp Contest: BAY Award Winners
Students from Niantic’s Barn for Artistic Youth earn a number of awards in the Connecticut Junior Federal Duck Stamp Competition every year. The Connecticut Waterfowl Association sponsors the competition at the state level and provides awards to Connecticut artists in grades K-12. All entries must depict original renditions of migratory waterfowl with special attention to duck anatomy, characteristic features and appropriate habitat in addition to artistic merit. BAY students have been competing in this contest since 2004, improving their skills in composition, drawing and painting each year. |

BAY Students March in Niantic's Memorial Day Parade
Each year BAY art students march in Niantic's Memorial Day Parade. This fun tradition involves both young and old students who team up to display banners and original creations such as monumental masks, sculptural hats, exotic birds and other masterpieces! By participating, older students give back to the program that helps them and they develop their sense of duty to our community and those younger than themselves. |

BAY Student Art Shows
The Barn for Artistic Youth holds an art show every two years. Students and their teacher select their strongest piece which is professionally matted at the BAY. High school artists from the BAY help Sophia and Justine hang the show and they learn a lot about how to display art!
Opening night is a busy and happy affair with refreshments, family, friends, photographs and very beautiful student art. The images seen here are from BAY art shows held in 2010 and 2012. |
