Art and Design School Fieldtrips

2010:  Field Trip to RISD


​Every few years, Sophia takes her high school  students to visit an art and design school.  These trips include a tour by admissions office staff, a visit to school studios and galleries, and an ongoing guided discussion with Sophia, students, and accompanying parents.  BAY student artists and their parents have found these trips to be very helpful.

The day includes lunch at a local restaurant, which gives time to reflect and discuss college opportunities.

Art & Design School Visits to the BAY

Art and design school admission officers come to the BAY each fall.  During these visits, they make a presentation to the high school art classes and they review BAY senior and junior student portfolios.  These visits are extraordinarily valuable to BAY students.  First, they receive very individualized attention, in the intimate setting of the BAY studio, from admission officers--many of our students have had their portfolios accepted on the spot!  Second, art and design school admission officers specifically seek out students at venues like the BAY because here they find serious, exceptional art students; thus, BAY students stand out in the crowd.  Third, it gives junior and senior portfolio students the opportunity to present their portfolios prior to National Portfolio Day--providing them experience and confidence in presenting their portfolio to real admission officers.  

Art and design schools that have visited the BAY include:  the Rhode Island School of Design, Pratt, Maine College of Art, New Hampshire Institute of Art, Hartford Art School, the Art Institute of Boston, Pratt at Munson Williams Proctor, and Massachusetts College of Art and Design
